Participated by 40 student leaders from different universities and col- leges across the Bicol Region, the National Youth Commission (NYC) held the Bicol Consultation on Students’ Rights and Welfare (STRAW) Bill at the CS Auditorium last August 19, 2013.
STRAW, which is sponsored by Albay 3rd District Representative Edcel Lagman and Kabataan Partylist Representative James Terry Ridon, aims to protect and promote the rights and welfare of the students. NYC is conducting consultations across the country to know the sentiments of the youth about the bill, so as to create a unified output that will be submitted to the congress. Likewise, this initiative is expected to get enough attention from other sectors of the society to encourage our lawmakers to further support STRAW.
